While we are starting the day off with some sunshine, we'll experience increasing clouds throughout the day with showers developing by this evening. Rain will overspread the state from southwest to northeast, as it fights against a residual dry airmass. Rainfall amounts will be near 0.10-0.2" across northern IL, with amounts closer to a half inch or locally higher across south-central IL, where a few thunderstorms may even be possible. As the center of low pressure tracks across the state Tuesday, northern IL will remain cloudy & cool while southern IL will be mild, until Thursday when southerly winds bring 50s back across the entire state. Our next storm system arrives later this week with rain expected for at least the southern half of the state.
