Winter Weather Returns, More Snow Thursday Night?

As a strong cold front passed through this morning, strong lift and just enough moisture combined to create a fast-moving snow squall across northern IL, which took many folks, including us by surprise! This front was the first sign of a larger-scale pattern change, back to more typical January weather. Our northwest flow type pattern should be somewhat active over the next week, with a few chances for light accumulating snow. The first of which arrives Thursday night, as light snow is expected to overspread the northern half of the state. By Friday morning, 1-3" of new snow could fall, as very cold arctic air settles in through the weekend, setting the stage for a colder Bears game this Sunday than what we saw last week.
