(12:15PM – Friday, April 18th, 2025) Friday midday update on a storm system moving through the region, with will bring a round of showers and t’storms to a large portion of the state from later this afternoon through Saturday morning. Severe t’storms will be possible with some of this activity.
Timing…
•Late Friday Afternoon – Saturday Morning, April 18-19th.
Location…
•Much of Illinois.
Impacts…
•A level 1 to 2 severe t’storm threat is in place across a large portion of Illinois, for the likelihood of isolated to widely scattered severe t’storms.
•Large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado will be possible with activity.
•Environmental conditions will be supportive of the possibility of occurrences of damaging winds 75MPH+ and hail larger than 2.00”.
Update…
•With this update, we have increased severe t’storm probabilities across portions of Central and Southern Illinois, where slightly higher coverage of severe t’storm potential will likely exist. Additionally, we have added significant severe t’storm hatching to portions of Central and Southern Illinois as well, to account for some chance of an isolated severe t’storm capable of producing large hail of 2.00″+ and/or damaging winds 75MPH+.
Discussion…
•As a storm system moves through the region, scattered showers and t’storm will develop and traverse a large portion of the state, from late this afternoon through Saturday morning. Severe t’storms will be possible with some of this activity.
A cap in place will prevent any development of activity until later this afternoon and evening. As stronger forcing enters the picture, scattered showers and t’storms will develop, along and ahead of a cold front from Northern Illinois down into West-Central Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma. This activity will then track northeastward, affecting a large portion of the state through Saturday morning.
