Illinois Storm Chasers

(11:45AM – Wednesday, March 26th, 2025) Wednesday morning update on the combination of a few disturbances moving through the region, a warm front lifting northward, and warm air advection occurring, which will all contribute to waves of showers and t’storms being likely across the state, between Thursday morning and Friday morning. A low-end and isolated severe t’storm threat will be possible across portions of the state during this period.

Timing…
•Thursday Morning – Friday Morning, March 27-28th.

Location…
•Large portion of Illinois.

Impacts…
•A level 1 severe t’storm risk is in place across portions of the state for the possibility of isolated severe t’storms.
•Hail will be the main threat with activity.

Update…
•With this update, we have expanded level 1/isolated severe t’storm probabilities across more of the state. This change was made based on increasing confidence that this level of threat will be likely across a larger area.

Discussion…
•Waves of scattered showers and t’storms will be likely between Thursday morning and Friday morning across the state, as a few disturbances move through the region, a warm front lifts northward, and warm air advection occurs. While surface based t’storm/severe t’storm activity is unlikely, adequate amounts of elevated instability and shear will be present, which will aide in the low-end/isolated severe t’storm threat possible.
