Illinois Storm Chasers

(10:30AM – Wednesday, March 19th, 2025) Wednesday morning update on a potent storm system that will move through the region, with an associated front that will sweep across the state. Scattered showers and t’storms will accompany this storm system, with some severe t’storm threat expected across the state from this morning through early tonight.

Timing…
•This Morning – Early Tonight, March 19-20th.

Location…
•Much of Illinois.

Impacts…
•A level 1 to 2 severe t’storm risk is in place across the state for the likelihood of isolated to widely scattered severe t’storms.
•Hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes will be possible threats with activity.

Update…
•With this update, we have slightly expanded the level 2 severe t’storm threat area, as higher coverage severe t’storm potential may exist across a bit of a larger of an area. Otherwise, the going forecast is on track.

Discussion…
•Scattered showers and ‘storms will be likely across Northern Illinois on this morning. An isolated severe t’storm cannot be ruled out with this activity, with hail being the main threat. The main focus will be scattered showers and t’storms that will then develop along an advancing front across Iowa and Missouri this morning. This activity will then traverse a large portion of the state from late this morning through early tonight. Of focus will be a corridor across portions of Northern and Central Illinois. This corridor will be south of a stalled warm front and directly ahead of the advancing area of low pressure, where the best parameters will be juxtaposed. Thus, this will be where a higher coverage of severe t’storm potential will exist. All modes of severe weather will be possible state-wide, but especially across the level 2 threat area.
