(11:45PM – Tuesday, March 18th, 2025) As a storm system moves through the region, a deformation axis of precipitation will develop on the backside, with a period of snow likely across portions of Northern and Central Illinois between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
Timing…
•Wednesday Evening – Thursday Morning, March 19-20th.
Location…
•Northern & Central Illinois.
Impacts…
•Snow accumulation ranging from a trace to 1″ will be likely across affected areas. However, a corridor of snowfall totals of 1-3″ will be possible. This axis may shift as weather guidance hones in on the potential.
•With marginal temperatures during this event… Snowfall will be heavy/wet, compacting/melting will occur during the event and greatest snowfall accumulation will be on colder surfaces.
•Banding will be likely in the snowfall corridor, with periods of moderate to heavy snowfall possible.
Discussion…
•As a storm system moves through the region, a deformation axis of precipitation will develop on the backside on Wednesday evening. As dynamics take hold and colder air filters in, precipitation will transition from rain to snow Wednesday evening/Wednesday night across Northern and Central Illinois. A period of snow will be likely across these areas, from transition on into Thursday morning.
While a larger area of general minor snowfall accumulation can be expected across Northern and Central Illinois, it is very likely that there will be a corridor of higher snowfall amounts of 1-3″. However, there is still uncertainty on where exactly this corridor sets up.
