(10:30PM – Friday, August 23rd, 2024) With a ridge expected to become established across the Central U.S. from this weekend and into next week, a period of hot and humid conditions is expected across the state for a multi-day period from Saturday through Thursday.

​Timing & Location…
•Saturday, August 24th – Thursday, August 29th: All Of Illinois.

Impacts…
•Daily high temperatures in the upper 80’s to upper 90’s can be expected across the state.
•Daily heat index values between 90-110 can be expected across the state.
•A few days will feature rain/t’storm chances, which will temper conditions at times for some areas.
•Different portions of the state will be affected on different days.

Discussion…
•A ridge will go through the process of developing, becoming established, and then breaking across the Central U.S. this weekend and next week. This ridge will bring a multi-day period of hot and humid conditions to the state from Saturday through Thursday. A few days will feature rain/t’storm chances, which will temper conditions at times for some areas. While different portions of the state will be affected on a day to day basis, the most widespread and oppressively hot and humid conditions will likely be on Monday and Tuesday.

•Sat, August 24th: High temperatures of 85-94 across the state, with peak heat indices of 87-97.
•Sun, August 25th: High temperatures of 85-96 across the state, with peak heat indices of 87-103.
