(11:00AM – Wednesday, July 31st, 2024) Wednesday morning update on a “Ring of Fire” weather pattern in place, featuring multiple disturbances moving through the region with an enhanced upper level flow in place, all atop ridging across the Southern Plains and Southern Mississippi Valley. Clusters of rain/t’storms will continue to be likely on a daily/nightly basis across portions of the state during this period. Severe t’storms will be likely with some of this activity across specific outlooked areas during this timeframe.

Update…
•With this update on the severe t’storm forecast for today/tonight, we have removed the level 2 severe t’storm threat that was in place across portions of the state. In the wake of round of a complex of rain/t’storms/severe t’storms this morning, the overall severe t’storm threat will remain isolated throughout the rest of the day and into tonight across affected areas.
•With this update on the severe t’storm forecast for Thursday/Thursday night, no changes were needed, as the going forecast is on track.

Impacts…
•A level 1 severe t’storm risk is in place across all of Illinois from this morning through early Thursday morning for the likelihood of isolated severe t’storms. Damaging winds and hail will be the main threats from activity.
•A level 1 severe t’storm risk is in place across all of Illinois from early Thursday morning through Thursday night for the likelihood of isolated severe t’storms. Damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado will be the main threats from activity.

Discussion…
•Clusters of rain/t’storms will continue to be likely across the state on a daily/nightly basis during this period. Severe t’storms will also continue to be likely with some of this activity across specific outlooked areas during this timeframe.
•For this morning through early Thursday morning, an initial complex of rain/t’storms/severe t’storms is tracking across the state this morning and will continue to into this afternoon. In the wake of this activity, another widespread round of rain/t’storms, will track across portions of the state tonight. Environmental conditions will be supportive of a isolated severe t’storm threat with this both rounds of activity across the state today and tonight.
•For early Thursday morning through Thursday night, areas of rain/t’storms will be likely across the state. Environmental conditions will be supportive of an isolated severe t’storm threat with some of this activity.
