(8:30PM – Tuesday, July 30th, 2024) Tuesday update on a ridge in place across the Southern Plains and Southern Mississippi Valley this week, which is bringing a period of hot and humid conditions to portions of the state. These conditions are expected over a multi-day period, through Thursday.

​Timing & Location…
•Monday, July 29th – Thursday, August 1st: Central and Southern Illinois.

Impacts…
•Daily high temperatures in the mid 80’s to mid 90’s can be expected for affected areas.
•Daily heat index values between 90-110 can be expected for affected areas.
•Daily shower/t’storm chances will temper conditions at times in some areas.

Discussion…
•A ridge has developed across Southern Plains and Southern Mississippi Valley early this week, and is expected to break down later this week on into this weekend. While the ridge is in place, it will continue to bring a multi-day period of hot and humid conditions to the state. Daily chances of showers/t’storms may temper conditions at times for some areas across the state.
